Our comments on taste

Flavourful, slightly fruity, smooth on palate, low in tannin

Why we say its great

This Nepal black tea is low in tannin with lots of golden tips. A nice alternative for a 2nd flush Darjeeling. Nepal borders on Darjeeling and their teas mimic their niegbour.

ORGANIC Thiasola Estate  SFTGFOP full-leaf Nilgiri tea from India  Steeps with the OP characteristics of a Ceylon & that right touch of maltiness of an Assam. Nilgiri tea is generally described as being a dark, intensely aromatic, fragrant and flavoured tea grown in the southern portion of the Western Ghats mountains of Southern India. It is grown in the hills of the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu. More than 50% of Nilgiri tea is exported, and usually finds its way into blends used for tea bags. The expensive hand-sorted, full-leaf versions of the tea like the Orange Pekoe (O.P.) are more highly sought after at international auctions making it unaffordable for most locals.

Nutritional

Black tea contains:

  • alkaloids, including caffeine, theophylline, and theobromine, amino acids, carbohydrates, proteins, chlorophyll, fluoride, aluminum, minerals and trace elements, volatile organic compounds, which contribute to its odor and taste

The antioxidant effect of black tea is due to its polyphenol content. Polyphenols are chemical compounds that protect plants from ultraviolet radiation and harmful, disease-causing pathogens. Flavonoids are one type of polyphenol. They occur in grapes, red wine, and other foods.
