One of our most popular blends of broken leaf Assam, Java & Ceylon BOP black teas. The aroma reflects the heartiness of the Assam, as well as the smoothness of the Java and Ceylon teas. Irish breakfast tea is a blend of several black teas, most often Assam teas. Irish brands, are heavily weighted toward Assam. We make our Irish breakfast tea blends specifically for North American market. Because of its strength, Irish breakfast tea is commonly served with milk, but may also be consumed plain or with sugar. In Ireland, where milk and dairy products are traditionally a major part of the diet, most people drink tea with milk.

Nutritional

Black tea contains:

  • alkaloids, including caffeine, theophylline, and theobromine, amino acids, carbohydrates, proteins, chlorophyll, fluoride, aluminum, minerals and trace elements, volatile organic compounds, which contribute to its odor and taste

The antioxidant effect of black tea is due to its polyphenol content. Polyphenols are chemical compounds that protect plants from ultraviolet radiation and harmful, disease-causing pathogens. Flavonoids are one type of polyphenol. They occur in grapes, red wine, and other foods.
