Khongea Assam Gold Tips Black Tea Assam teas for the most part are good teas with a few estates making exceptional teas. Such is the case with the Khongea Estate owned by Glenburn Teas in India. We carried this tea for a good number of years back 3 years ago and have just now brought it back again. Many of our Assam customers have missed this delightful tea and remarked about it’s numerous gold tips. Khongea is a classic mid-summer Assam tea, a robust black tea with tons of body and weight. Khongea Assam exhibits that traditional slightly sweet malty note typical of quality Assam black teas. It is famous for, and a has a lovely, long, lingering finish. When steeping this tea, I do not recommend making it too strong, especially on the first cup. Too strong a cup will most likely turn you off this tea and most other black teas for that matter. Use 2 -3 grams per 8 ounce cup, bring water short of the boil, 195 – 200F. and steep for 3 minutes. Please stay with your cup and make certain it is steeped properly. Way too many cups of tea are ruined by over-steeping and not paying careful attention to the steeping parameters. ENJOY!

Brew Ha-Ha

Black tea is a variety of tea from the Camellia sinensis plant that is a species of an evergreen shrub or small tree from the family Theaaceae whose leaves and leaf buds are used to produce 'TEA'

Black Tea is fully oxidized in comparison to others like Green, Oolong or White which are much less oxidized. Black Tea is the most popular of all the teas and the most widely consumed in the world.

Nutritional

Black tea contains:

  • alkaloids, including caffeine, theophylline, and theobromine, amino acids, carbohydrates, proteins, chlorophyll, fluoride, aluminum, minerals and trace elements, volatile organic compounds, which contribute to its odor and taste

The antioxidant effect of black tea is due to its polyphenol content. Polyphenols are chemical compounds that protect plants from ultraviolet radiation and harmful, disease-causing pathogens. Flavonoids are one type of polyphenol. They occur in grapes, red wine, and other foods.
